What is a Broker-Client Assigned Number (BCAN)?

To trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, a Broker-Client Assigned Number (‘BCAN’) will be assigned to your account. The BCAN is a unique identification number used to track and identify your account, transactions, and other relevant information. It functions similarly to a Holder Identification Number (HIN) used on the ASX.

When trading securities on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (‘SEHK’), Webull will register your BCAN along with identification information such as your full name, ID issuing country, ID type (e.g., driver's license or passport), and ID number with the SEHK. SEHK will send the information to the Mainland exchanges (directly or through ChinaClear). The Mainland exchanges or ChinaClear will consolidate and validate the BCANs and identification information received. If any issue arises, the Mainland exchanges or ChinaClear will inform SEHK and SEHK will inform Webull accordingly. The corresponding BCANs (not yet confirmed to be valid by the Mainland exchanges via ChinaClear) may not be used for trading on T day and the orders will be rejected by the Mainland exchanges.

When you terminate your account, Webull will update the BCAN status to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
