Why do I receive CHESS holding statements and notifications?

When you sign up to open a trading account with Webull we organise automatically for you, a Holder Identification Number (‘HIN’) to make things easier for our clients. The HIN records all of your share holdings. On that, all client HINs are registered and recorded with CHESS.

Whenever you make a security transaction or change any details in your CHESS holding account, the ASX will automatically generate a confirmation holding statement or notification document in relation to your transaction, currently, these documents are sent to your mailing address.

The types of notices CHESS can issue include:

  • Change of name and/or address
  • Creation of a new Holder Identification Number (HIN) – When you open a Webull account, you will receive a HIN notification. FinClear will be noted as the CHESS sponsor.
  • Change of CHESS sponsor – If you are a Webull client, FinClear is the CHESS sponsor.

CHESS holding statements are issued at the end of the month only if there are any confirmed changes to your holdings in an individual security during that month. The statement shows the opening balance, movements in or out of your holding information, and the closing balance for the month.

CHESS notifications are sent by the ASX to inform you that your CHESS sponsor/broker has advised the ASX that your details have changed. The notifications are sent at the time that the ASX receives changes or updates.
