What does T+2 trade settlement mean?

The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) follows a T+2 settlement cycle, which means that settlement and delivery of stocks occur two business days after the order is executed

For example, if you bought shares on Monday (trade date), the trade must be settled by Wednesday (T+2).

Settlement refers to the exchange of money for the shares and the transfer of ownership from the seller to the buyer.
